Klaus Obenauer is one of very few German academic theologian who is also a strict Thomist. Recently he has written some rather interesting things on the question of the reconciliation of the Society of St Pius X (FSSPX) and the Holy See. A lecturer at the University of Bonn, Obenauer used to be assistent to Prof. Karl-Heinz Menke. When Menke gave an interview in which he said that a reconciliation was impossible and implied that that was a good thing, Obenauer answered with an impassioned article arguing that it was both possible and urgently necessary.

Now Obenauer has written an article on why, given that a reconciliation is possible in principle, relations between Rome and the FSSPX seem to have come to a standstill. I have been asked to translate Obenauer's article, but as its rather long I shall just give a summary. Continue reading

In January 2014, Bishop Richard Williamson bought this house in Broadstairs, Kent, U.K. for several reasons:

– first of all, he had been rendered homeless since his expulsion from the SSPX in 2012 and needed a restful home, by the sea, to return to from his many foreign visits;

What Does Sspx Believe

– secondly, he wanted a house which would have the space necessary to welcome priests and religious who desired to meet with him and even stay for weeks at a time in the troubled context of the SSPX from 2012 onwards;

What Does Sspx Stand For

– lastly, the house would be the centre of a developing apostolate extending across the whole country, concentrating on London.

This past year has seen a number of repairs and improvements to make the house fit for these purposes. All the furniture, white goods, crockery, cutlery, linen etc. had to be purchased since the house was completely empty and His Lordship arrived almost empty-handed. Thanks to the generosity of benefactors world-wide, the house now has a chapel, living areas, a kitchen and a Bishop's study where it is possible to pray, work, entertain and even organise small seminars, like the 'Charles Dickens' weekend' with Doctor Alan White, held last August.

While there is still much room for improvement, it would seem that the priest guests over the year have been satisfied and the apostolate will surely increase in 2015, in particular, with the now weekly Mass in London.
